Jorel’s first foray into the world of directing and filmmaking was through his short film in Manila for Pasan in 2015, which was exhibited internationally at the Short Film Corner of the 68th Cannes Film Festival and won awards at the Canada International Film Festival.
Over the last few years, he has developed a unique and strong visual language and kin
etic style of cinematic storytelling — an approach shaped by his love for Japanese anime, art house cinema, eclectic taste in music and MVs and a background in philosophy and graphic design.
He has made a name for himself in directing MVs and commercials with Clients like Pepsi, Sprite, RC Cola, Metrobank, PLDT to name a few, and his creative partnerships with BBDO, Havas, and Ogilvy, among other clients.
A multi-awarded music video director, he has collaborated with top-billed artists in the Philippines like the popular Ben&Ben and crwn to name a few. His experimental video for the latter’s Orchid + Bedroom Dance (2019) is an entrancing study on movement and the natural world. His latest for Ben&Ben, Courage (2023), is an exploration of time and mental health and the fortitude it takes to move forward.
He is always open to explore new techniques and styles that are thought-provoking, fresh, and ultimately, mind-expanding, to create a unique and holistic viewing experience for audiences.
